Boramy Viguier SS20 : the Piper at the Gates of Dusk

Boramy Viguier is the namesake brand for a young and up-coming designer from Paris who first worked with Alexander McQueen, and who then featured the men’s collection for Lanvin where he was recruited before starting on his own. That’s what happens when talented Frenchmen go to Saint Martins. So here you see the result.
Mr Viguier won the Prix LVMH recently and is featured in several upscale concept retail stores these days. His style perhaps can best be described as a form of magical realism but we clearly notice some influences from North of London somewhere here at Endymion Fashion. There is something dark, hidden and foreboding in his work despite the smashing colours and the incredible layered materials. And if such are the first efforts of a new brand for a first collection then subsequent collections will be even more delicious, and more boisterous in the juxtaposition of shades of stark colours vs materials vs background & entourage vs accessories vs style. I guess in Italy they would call it ‘maximalism’.
The layered parts of the collection are very much in vogue these days, nothing new here, but we are witnessing a French double take on the classics of Savile Row perhaps – re- tailored bespoke with a French touch while Paul Smith colours smash you into visual obedience. Nothing left of the mediterranean pastels here, but a strong Northern dark yet colourful contribution to the Prince of Wales, and perhaps some Scottish Squares on old Army garments and Insignia. Only the bagpipes are missing, so indeed picture an urban ingrate pretending to classical style coming forth slowly from the fog in the damp forests on the outskirts of Belfast or Edinborough.
But hey who cares when you are capping your outfit with dark, dark shades. Or with an earpiece for that matter. The French would say …
Collection Bien Réussie.
