Tiger of Sweden F/W 19/20 : Minimalist Classicism for a Casual Collection Makes

Greek mythology is an interesting subject which should be talked about more often. Thus Endymion was delighted when perusing Tiger of Sweden’s F/W 2019/20 collection, which this aspiring fashion writer would like to refer to as New Greek tragedy. But please don’t fall over the word ‘tragedy’ while it is actually a good occasion for someone to wear such clothes as it would be like walking around in small pieces of art. Greek art. Greek beauty. And quite naturally, Greek sensuality. So while the collection has a modern appeal, indeed there are references to classic Greek Mythology. The first give-away would be the palette of colors used in the collection, since the colors are coherent and unified: browns, dark blue, whites and shades of black are leading this collection which can make one think of the murals and the pottery that represents ancient Greece.
In the 1920s, when Tiger of Sweden introduced the first suits names ‘Tiger’, this particular style was so popular at the time that the company changed its name to what it is now. And the Tiger suit is an essential element to the brand image and we can find it in this 2019/20 Fall/Winter collection. If you look closely at the suits you can notice vertical motifs on some, while noticing vertical folding marks on others as these elements remind of pillars that can be found on the Pantheon or indeed in a museum. Furthermore, the patterns on the ties of some of the suits resemble the tiles of an old Greek temple. If you still don’t believe there is a reference to the mythology based on the analysis above, perhaps you ought to go to a museum to enrich your cultural horizons, or, which may be easier, you can simply look again at the prints and patterns you will find on the Tiger trench coat, the bags or the shirts. For don’t they resemble a work of art that you can find in a museum? If your answer is no, then our first suggestion becomes an obligation, with no excuses accepted. Thus, the general style of this collection is quite simple, even though there is always one element which pops up to the roving eye: for instance the use of different texture of fabrics such as cashmere, cotton twill, poplin or nylon to create a certain look; or, as you please, perhaps Chelsea boots in crocodile leather to give the ensemble a Cosmopolitan kick.
Tiger of Sweden has the further particularity to offer Mandarin collars that are either regular or revisited with some lace, which gives a refreshing touch to a simple look. In general, the tops of the F/W 2019/20 collection free up the neckline of anyone who is willing to wear them, which gives the possibility for use of one of the multiple scarfs or foulards that Tiger offers as an accessory. As for signatures apart from the classic art references, Endymion revered further items of Tiger clothing because there are a lot of pockets that are sometimes rather large and wide, yet practical because when our phones and devices grow bigger, our pockets should do so too. Some articles are missing pockets, but no panic as they can be well accompanied with the bags and sacks the collection offers, and this range goes from small leathers pouches to artistically printed tote bags. So Tiger of Sweden manages to put some serious classic past into the future in this F/W 2019/20 collection by its classic signatures mixed into the fabrics. The wardrobe is rich and diversified and most importantly could fit any men’s occasion as it gives a classic yet modern look, which despite the rigor and structure Nordic minimalism yet looks oh so very casual and elegant at the same time.
I fear the Greeks bearing gifts.
